Motorsports

For nearly 60 years, TVR has enjoyed an illustrious motorsport career, beginning in the 1940s with Trevor Wilkinson's personal passion for motor racing, which ultimately led him to establish the TVR marque.

Since then, TVR has gone on to compete successfully in several Les 24 Heures du Mans, Le Mans Endurance Series and numerous British and international GT championships, as well as spawning the phenomenal Tuscan Challenge series, which ran for some 16 seasons.

In the 1990s, TVR revealed to the world its frighteningly powerful Cerbera Speed 12, which pioneered the use of carbon fibre and aluminium honeycomb, encasing its monstrous, home-grown 7.7 litre, 800 bhp V12.

Arguably TVR's greatest success was had in 2004 when two awesome Tuscan T400Rs completed Les 24 Heures du Mans, the most prestigious and gruelling of all endurance motor races.

TVR is proud of its motorsport history, and continues to be committed to its racing roots and to its success on the GT scene. But as part of its ethos of continual development, TVR plans to prove itself further on the international race circuit, as well as on the roads.

NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL EVENTS

The national programme consists of a variety of events both social and sporting with the emphasis on enjoying your TVR. We used to have an annual visit to Blackpool (Back Home) where we would tour the TVR factory and see where your car was constructed. Sadly this is no longer possible although we do meet in Blackpool from time to time to remind the local residents of their most famous export!

In the summer we organise a National Gathering where we aim to gather as many TVRs together at once. Previous venues have stretched from as far afield as Kent to the Isle of Man, from South Wales to East Anglia or from the Home Counties through the East Midlands to Scotland. We have often linked this event in with a track day at one of the country's premier motor racing circuits such as Brands Hatch, Donington and Silverstone where again you can explore your car's full potential with expert tuition available if required. Over and above this there are a number of other national track days spread around the country from Knockhill and Croft in the north to Snetterton and Castle Combe in the South. Additionally, there is an international meeting every year at Zolder where enthusiasts from all over Europe meet to enjoy their cars on one of Europe's most famous circuits.

FOR SALE: TVR

FOR SALE: TVR needs new owner to stay alive.

A brief press release TopGear.com brings the bad, sad news that TVR has been "put under", which is the name in the United Kingdom to roughly what might be described as a declaration of bankruptcy (most notably companies benefiting from this measure to protect against actions by creditors).

The text states that administrators PKF want to sell the manufacturer to keep him alive. TVR was bought by Russian billionaire Nikolai Smolensky in 2004 but although he tried to revive the company with new models and improved the overall product, it seems that their steps to move production to Italy, reduce costs and provide a new supercar have come too late for TVR. We hope you have someone interested and visionary for this ship can stay afloat (and hopefully not sail in the UK).

TVR Sagaris 2

A few days ago I commented that TVR announced it will begin to construct a Sagaris improved version of the end of 2008. Car magazine today revealed the first image of the Sagaris spy series 2 2009. The sports car will debut at some point this week.

The Sagaris 2 will be powered by the same 4.0-liter engine "Speed Six" who was in the previous model, which can generate an output of 380bhp, while it can do 0 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds. The maximum speed will be close to 160mph.

The new Sagaris 2 will go on sale in early 2009.

About TVR: Past and Present

-TVR was founded in 1947 by Trevor
Wilkinson, who used three consonants of his first name for the company name. The first car was built in 1949. In 1953 the concept of glass-reinforced plastic bodywork over a tubular steel backbone chassis was born, which is continued to this day. In the early years, a wide range of engines was used.

-TVR is the third largest specialized sports car manufacturer of the world. A diverse range of coupes and convertibles are offered, most using an inhouse straight-6 cylinder engine design, others an inhouse V8. These cars are built from sturdy tubular steel frames, cloaked in aggressive (and sometimes bizarre) body designs.

-The life of TVR can be divided into four eras, based on who owned the company:
1947-1965: Trevor Wilkinson
1965-1981: Martin Lilley
1981-2004: Peter Wheeler
2004-present: Nikolai Smolenski

-In July 2004, 24 year old Russian, Nikolai Smolenski, bought 100% of the company from its owner Peter Wheeler, for about 15 million. Despite Smolenski's Russian origin, he reportedly intends for TVR to remain a British company and continue the tradition of building lightweight high-performance cars that started more than thirty years before he was born.
